Written for English 546 - This collection includes just a smattering of stories, legends, expressions, and objects that are preserved here. Some tell of experiences that the first settlers had as they tried to build farms and homes here. The purpose of this folklore collection, however, is not to present these much-publicized occurences. It is to preserve a few of the pieces of everyday life; our family ancestral stories, vocabulary our great-grandparents handed down, objects that stand for the unique experience of pioneering settlers, customs we have preserved or lost, and legends that have grown up within our mountains.
