During a visit with 96 year old Ruth Jensen I intended to find out how much she might know about the Collinston area. Especially of interest were the old buildings on the east side of the road as you travel on Highway 38 going south. There is an old red building which was once the Colliston store, an old home, and a barn. These were owned by Ruth Jensen's husband's family. After the parents died, another son took over, and when he died the current owners bought the place. After establishing some of these facts, Ruth talks about the Bigler farm where she spent her married life. At the time of this interview, Ruth was living in a newer home built on the farm property. Her husband's grandfather, Mark Bigler, built the original rock house and barn. These buildings were built in 1887 and the barn right around the same time. The farm has been given a Century Farm designation, since it has been in the Bigler/Jensen farm for over 100 years. Ruth's daughter-in-law has taken over ownership of the farm, and there are plans to use the property to farm again. As a Century Farm, they are interested in having visitors and being listed in the guided barn tour publication in the process of being produced.
