This interview with Thelma and her son, Dennis, took place in the Thornley kitchen. John Thornley and his brother Robert were some of the first settlers of Smithfield, in the 1860s. This barn was built in 1918 when John's son, Samuel J. Thornley, was farming. Then, in 1953, Samuel's son Don Thornley, took over the farm. Don took many awards for his prize wining cattle in the 1970s. Both Dennis and his mother live together in the family home. The Thornley barn, farm, and house are immaculate, organized, and well cared for.
